Does anyone have an idea on delivery times for a new S5 order (if ordered today)?
A colleague of mine (long time BMW driver, currently drives a 2003 (or so) M3) went to look at one at the local dealership and was told it would be A YEAR until he could get one if ordered today. Does that sound right?

You dont say where you are so the answers you get may or may not be correct.
In the UK, other posters are saying they are getting theirs in about 4 months.

I had an order for five and a half months, and it still wasn't pulled out of the computer system. Basically that means if it was pulled today it would still take about 3 months to build and deliver. I got lucky when the dealer called me and told me he had received one and the buyer dissapeared on him. Otherwise I would not be surprised if my order was still sitting in the order bank. Don't listen to what AoA is saying, they're full of *&%#. I would say accurate delivery time is about 9 months.

O.: At least 6 months, if not longer. That local dealership has at least eight sold orders in the factory order bank.

peeps, please state your location, and whether you ordered a 6spd or automatic, and also whether you did any non-std color orders. These factors seem to make quite a bit of difference.

What do you think stands better chances - AT or 6spd?
US - Western PA..
I ordered an Automatic mid December.
No special colors.
Audi of America: I think they have been told to tell people 6 months - that's how they responded to me after I asked why they spent 3 million on a Superbowl commercial to create demand for a car that's even harder to get than my S5.

Dear :
Thank you for contacting Audi of America. We understand and sympathize
with your eagerness to see your S5 arrive.
The current delivery timing on the S5 manual transmission vehicles is 6
months from the time of order. This is the normal supply chain timing
due to an unprecedented worldwide demand for this model. There are no
part delays or technical delays affecting the delivery timing on this
model.
If you have other questions about your order, please contact Audi
Customer CARE at 1.800.822.2834, option 3. They are available Monday
through Friday from 8 am to 8 pm eastern time.
Again, thank you for writing; we hope you will be in your S5 soon.

yup...notice that AoA put "manual transmission" in the letter? From what I can tell, the manual production models are backed up more severely than the tiptronics.
Maybe I will write to them to confirm this.

i'm the schlimazel that this crap always happens to, so what happened is as soon as i got interested in the S5, all of you guys' luck lowered to meet mine.. sorry!
so what i want to know is - 6 months from when? how can they possibly come up with this number when the variables are:
1. number of people interested
2. number of orders at any given dealer
3. number of allocation slots at those dealers (w/r/t order amount, too)
4. delay in allocation
5. production delays in general
totally arbitrary number - 6 months isn't so long that most people will cancel, but it's not short enough to get any of our hopes up either.. IMHO, of course..

I have a hard time understanding that rationale.
Is there a delay on the Q7 4.2?
Is there a delay on the A6 4.2?
etc.
Sure they are all tuned differently, but it's essentially the same block, isn't it?
My guess as to the delay is:
1. More profitable to sell in Europe/UK, so those orders are taking precedent. (Exchange rate is suppressing the number of orders fufilled from the US).
2. CAFE Standards - I wonder if they look at the sales of Audi's with higher fuel economy in the US, to portion out the sales of gas guzzlers? ie. If they were to sell all these S5's without a balance of 2.0T A4/A3's could Audi get hit with a large CAFE fine?
3. Worldwide demand - I'm sure that factors in to some extent - as evidenced by delays in fufilling UK orders.
4. Dealer Allocations - are you buying from a dealer with huge Audi sales? If not, you might be down the line a bit.

....I was looking into getting an IBIS S5 manual before I eventually found a RS4 that I liked better.

I am just as excited as the rest of you but when it was asked the salesman even said it is very likely I could be buying an 09 model because of the time...
