Maybe I had a few too many drinks tonight, but I don't know if I have the patience to wait for the Triptronic S5s (do we even have an estimation when these might arrive stateside - May/June?)
Read on another forum the delays are only getting worse for existing manual S5 orders; plant is on break for the holiday; we have no idea when dealers are even going to get Triptronic S5 allocations; and even if they do - who knows about delivery date.
Is it crazy I'm considering a slightly used 2007 Jaguar XK?

If it is a fairly new XKR Jaguar model than the Jag would be a good way to go. But rather take an S5 if the Jaguar is just an XK model. The base XK is weak.

I just can't fathom owning a slushbox of any sort. Good luck!

I heard the guy that designed the new XK is the brother of whoever designed the Ford Tuarus from a couple years ago. From the front they look exactly the same. I forget where I read that. The profile and rear of that car are great looking though.
Search youtube for the top gear video of the XKR. Its wild.
If you can wait I would.

I was thinking the same except paying more for a used '07 or new'08 XKR. This will be my replacement daily driver (S5/XKR) so I prefer automatic as my weekend toy is a manual. My Audi dealer is still saying everything is still on schedule for March delivery (ordered placed early December) but either they are out of the loop or just saying that so I won't leave and take my deposit back.

I checked one of these out and thought the interior was WAY too cheap for a car this expensive. Go with the S5 and NEVER look back.
S5 is faster to boot!

Unless you want a convertible that bad and unless you can land a good deal on a used 2007 Jaguar XKR model with low miles.
I actually drove a used 2007 Jaguar XK convertible yesterday that the San Diego dealer had on the lot for 66k with 20,000 miles and a good 6 year/100k warranty.
My take: while I love the design of Jaguar and the 2007 model is much improved over the last model from 2000, it still is not as fast as the S5 or as much fun to drive. Very smooth and decent power (300HP) but lacks the sports finesse of the S5.
And at 66k it is more than a fully loaded brand new Audi S5.
I need to see how the new BMW M3 and BMW 135i compare at the end of the year as well as the new Mercedes C63 AMG before I decide to purchase a new Audi S5. Based on Top Gear videos all three new cars are fantastic from the recent Top Gear videos for the C63 AMG, new M3 and Audi RS4 but Jeremy Clarkson was really into the sick power of the AMG C63 Merc
(453HP!!!!) and the Top Gear crowd voted the new BMW M3 V8 as the overall best new saloon of the bunch
(Sorry Audi!).
I also see used 2007 Audi RS4 sedans for 50-60k with low miles on a lot of dealer lots so thats another consideration with massive power and brakes similar to that found in the much more expensive and exotic R8.
I wanted a Porsche Cayman or Lotus Elise at first but for a best all around car, a GT saloon like the S5, Jaguar XK or C63 cant be beat.
