That said I think I got lucky in that I was able to change the options on the last available order slot the dealer had at the time. DaveLew 12-30-2007, 03:24 PM So there is a production hold, however that may not preclude you from getting an S5 before April. Some things that I have learned (it should be noted that I already have my car, but my dealer and I still talk...) 1. Dealers now can take order, but the factory is NOT officially accepting them - therefore you will not get a production date. 2. There are dealers who have cars coming (from their allocation), but have not sold them. A reputable dealer can (and should) go into the system and tell you what have been built and is currently being shipped stateside (And what is in current dealer inventory) 3. There are a fair amount of cars in current dealer inventory awaiting sale. If you are looking for a Black/Black with B&O and the Tech package...you can probably find it sitting on a dealer's lot now.(check Autotrader and your dealer's system). 4. Most, if not all of the dealer demos that arrived earlier this year (Gray/Magma) will be available for sale within the next few weeks. These all have B&O and the Tech package...if this is your color selection and you are willing to trade a lower price for a slightly used car, this maybe an option. Hope this helps...but knowing that Audi uses the same V8 engine base for their RS 4, B8 S4, S5 and R8 models (and maybe more that I am not aware of), if the reason for production delay is engine availability and knowing that an S5 brings in about double the revenue for Audi when sold outside of the US market (check the prices in Germany, UK, Australia, Russia, etc.) and the focus on getting the B8 S4 (a much higher volume car for Audi) here for launch...it maybe awhile before there are vast numbers of S5 here in the States. Again these are just the ramblings of a guy who LOVES his Brilliant Red S5, takes the long way home and often decides to go to the grocery store on the other side of town. cee-to 12-30-2007, 04:15 PM

http://forums.audiworld.com/a5/msgs/16474.phtml</a

ibisS5 12-30-2007, 04:16 PM b8 s4 is a tt v6 deak 12-30-2007, 04:42 PM When I went to finalize my order for a S5 in Canada two weeks ago I asked about production delays. My dealer told me this was an american problem as Audi was not to keen to fill all the US orders because they were making so little margin on the cars with the horrible US dollar. They said getting a Canadian car was no problem. Remember guys the S5 is priced at 65900 in Canada but includes Tech package, B&O and carbon inlays BUT our dollar is currently worth 1.02 US bucks. Full six year/100K warranty up-front is a selling point (although the CPO warranty for the last two years isn't as broad as the factory warranty from the first four). Regards, Derek TargaCoupe 12-31-2007, 09:26 AM and was told I'm looking at June. No production dates have been given to me yet so I don't know if that US-Canada reasoning works. darkseid2k 12-31-2007, 06:35 PM I ordered mine two weeks ago in Toronto and was told I'm in the 2nd allocation batch - estimated for April delivery.. a solid date should come towards the end of January I'm hoping. Troy H 01-01-2008, 03:11 PM Roswell 01-01-2008, 08:15 PM Also, I doubt Audi makes more money selling cars in another country because they cost more there, I'm sure that premium is associated to the local taxes like the VAT in Europe and I thnink that's around 20%. deak 01-02-2008, 08:00 AM In Canada there are no additional or hidden taxes in the MSRP and yet the price in Canada is 17 % higher. That's all profit to Audi. Prices in the UK and europe are even higher. The US price is currently simply too low due to the horrible US dollar. If I were Audi, I would raise invoice to the dealers and make sure they sell at MSRP. To ensure this I would keep demand high by restricting the numbers to the US. Simple business common sense. |
