So, my new S5 is officially a lemon...

Within the first 6 days of ownership, the car started leaking coolant and the heater core had blown. It took Audi over a month to replace it. While replacing it they damaged a side skirt, scratched my interior wood trim, and scratched my drivers side door.

Ive had the car for a little over two weeks now and the power steering pump just blew.... This car is awfully strange. At the point the car is considered a lemon under MA law. I guess i'll be getting a new one, although I am toying with the idea of a RS4 or a S6.... Who knows...

I'd say stick with getting another S5, the S6 and RS4 are great choices too though, so either way you can't go wrong.

Makes me wonder if I should get my deposit back. I was going to give the dealer more money just to make sure the vehicle lands in my hand and not someone who is willing to pay over msrp......

Did they at least replace the wood trim and repair the skirt and door?!

I've only had a minor problem with my S5 (loose fuse) so I hope your experiences were a fluke.

Any chance the dealership can get an S5 transferred over from another dealer? 6 months is a long time to wait for a new order...

S5 was too big for me - and the gas mileage was the same as the RS

...which once the manufacturer is aware of the problem, they have 7 business days to correct the problem (look at paragraph 4(b))

You should talk to the regional service manager. Audi corporate can swap your car, they did for me. My B6 S4 was replaced with a B7.

Feel free to drop me a note and I can give you the whole story.

That sounds like a bunch of garbage to me.

I don't think that you have too much to worry about, kceesar.

BTW, where have you heard about clutch problems with the S5? I have yet to hear or see that, at least that is the case here on AudiWorld.

1,000,000-1, your problems with your S5 are most likely a fluke.

I would just get another S5 and forget about the RS 4 (whose basic design dates back to 2002) or the S6 (whose basic design dates back to 2005; FWIW, the S6, from what I have read and heard, rides more harshly than the S5 yet does not handle or steer any better than the S5).

That is why, yet again, that 1,000,000-1, FinallyS5's problems with his S5 are most likely a fluke.

I dearly and sincerely hope that things work out for you in the end.

I can see if you wanted 4 doors but these cars are basically the same exact size in terms of swept area.

All the good drivers (on the track) who I respect love the S5 - so what do I know and the RS weighs more.

I just was not comfortable sitting in the car

wt - S5 3891 lbs
---- RS 3957 lbs<ul><li><a href="http://forums.fourtitude.com/zerothread?id=3095868">Link</a></li></ul>

But i completely understand your frustration. The coolant leak and power steering pump are an issue. Problem of taking delivery of a car that is a brand spanking new model is that the parts supply is not quite there yet. I've had friends with same issues with new BMW models. One guy was out of his car for a month because of a simple climate control button. But it was a brand new model (3 series), and they didn't have the parts stocked up in the US yet.

Your other 3 problems are a result of careless techs, so take that up with your dealer, not Audi. Dealer should extend your warranty by several months since you have not been able to drive it.

But, better now than 2-3 yrs into ownership... my MKI TT spent A LOT of time in the shop in the 3rd and 4th year I had it, and there was no Lemon Law recourse at that point.

inability to manipulate the left pedal is hardly a clutch issue. The clutch on this car requires a bit of finesse for sure but it works right. It takes some getting used to how to engage it. I drive our demo a few times a week in dress shoes and have no problem even in the heavy traffic on the road our store is on. Nor did I have any issues at the track at the launch. I've only read about one clutch failure and that was on a demo unit. Hmmm what happened there ;-)

So they will replace the car? How dare they scratch the car etc as well, what careless cretins. Things like this are enough to put people off a car brand, at least you are taking it with a cool head. Maybe an RS4 or S6 would be a good idea, or even the new B8 S4 (whenever that comes out). It would be fair if you had a negative view of all S5s from now on after whats happened so maybe a switch would be a good thing.

My Porsche Cayenne Turbo was bought back from Porsche recently, it was brand new and burned oil like crazy, the dealer said "it was normal", yeah right, down a quart every time I fillup is "normal". I learned some important things, talking, phoning, or even writing the dealer is usually a waste of time. You have to write a certified letter to the dealer and the manufacturer that references Mass. lemon laws AND is also a c93a demand letter. This starts the clock ticking on the manufacturer, and allows you to collect multiple (double or triple) damages in court.

After receiving this, they will likely ask for Final repair attempt. If you are not satisfied after this, sue. It is very easy and won't cost you anything. Do not believe that you need to pay something out of your pocket, you don't. Don
t let them try and make you feel like you're the problem, you're not. Hire this attorney if you want to get things done, he won't charge you anything, the manufacturer ends up paying.
