To get around the problem of the Audi Nav not working in Europe, I'm buying the European map SD card that plugs into a friend's portable Garmin c340: City Navigator NT Europe v9 (SD data card, see link).

If you have a Garmin (or have a friend who does), I think this is the best solution.

The SD card costs about $240, which is steep, but better (for me) than having my wife navigate back roads on paper for 3 weeks.

So I'm going to buy one, but I was just wondering if anyone has done this, and has a card they would sell? Regardless, I'll have an SD card for someone else to use when I'm back (in mid Sept).

Garmin Europe Map SD Card

You can buy the same card from Amazon for $200

get it used off ebay (run me about $300). It come with Europe map build in on harddrive and I sold it back on ebay for the same price so all i loss is shipping charge and listing charge (about $20 vs trying to get my mom to read the map)

Good idea. I suppose it would be more expensive up front, but perhaps easier to sell on ebay after the trip.

Works great, and I'm familiar with it since it's what they rent you at Avis. The 270 comes with all of US/Canada/western Europe.

Great user interface, and has saved my butt several times in South Africa.

I'll probably just keep it for other travel, and/or lend it to friends.
