Audi's R8 is intended to rival the Porsche 911.

But the R8's price point really makes it a Ferrari or Lamborghini alternative.

What about an R6? Go with 350 HP from a twin turbo 3.2 V6 and a smaller size.

This car would really take a bite out of Porsche and provide a classy alternative to the always vulgar Vette.

I'm thinking $60-70K for an R6.

it is not in VW's best interest to make a car that steals 911 or Cayman sales, or takes "a bite out of Porsche" as you suggest.
