I bought the Hoen chromium bulbs, which are not so chromium. I plan to replace these at some point with a pure silver bulb. Other than that it made a pretty big difference on the front end aesthetics. I did one more step during the process and painted the two inner housings satin black. I didn't like how the chromed front piece looked on a titanium package car, and the piece behind it was more of a gray color.

I Also painted the lower front amber reflectors to match. Next on the list is a front plate delete.

I am jealous. Did you get it done in a weekend?

Anyone in Washington state want to get together and do clear corner mods to our cars? Would be fun to tear down a couple cars in someones garage together. Let me know...

I'm out in Seattle btw, and could help some weekend.

I just popped all the reflective bits off once apart and painted the rest.

to stop by and offer a hand. Already did mine but if it's on a Saturday I might be able to help a little.

I am in Richland but often in Seattle for visits. I was targeting April or May, when the weather gets warmer, want to shoot for then? May might e good, and I have some M's tickets so we could celebrate a good mod by catching a game.

I remember Havabooz had painted his light housings all black including the chromed housing except the immediate reflective surface of the running light and the projector of the low beam. It looked really mean.

Looks like his pictures are down, though, or I'd link to them...

Good work!

I'm in a condo so I don't have a garage to do it in; we'd have to find another participant with a proper facility. I did my CC mod at my sister's house up in Bellingham.

It's not super big, but plenty of room to get the job done. Just shoot some dates over when the time gets closer.

always on (assuming you VAG the headlights to r.o.w.) I've yet to read about the painted bulbs causing heat issues in this particular application.

And this summer will mark 2 years with these bulbs so I'm guessing they are okay.

I know of three RS4 owners that melted their housings with the Hoen Chromium DRL/city light bulbs and one that complained of what they though was heat caused distortion from a silver coated signal bulb, but the US vs. ROW coding or the bulb brand may be the difference there. I am glad to hear you have been trouble-free.

but after 5 years of running Philips Silvervision bulbs in my B5 turn signals and going on two years with these on the B7 I'm not too worried about bulbs that just blink.

Do you happen to know if, in the cases where melting happened, the bulbs were of a significantly higher wattage? Seems like, intuitively, that would be a bigger issue than a painted bulb.

I've seen reference to the 1156 bulb here which is 27w, where as the stock bulb is 21w for the turn signal. I bought the 1156 and the 7506 which is 21w to match the stock rating. With the euro-coding I've been running the 1156 and don't anticipate any problems.
