Hey Guys and Gals,

Have been using the Conti SportContact 3s that came with my car for the past 15k miles and it is time for a new pair of shoes.

Has anyone had the opportunity to use both the PS2s and RE01Rs on the RS4 on the street and track to determine a favorite?

Which one would you get and why?

Many thanks in advance.

Conti's on my 08 with another set of 275/30ZR19
RE-01R's. It does seem like the Conti's are better then the PZ's that came stock on the first car.

The PS2s may last a little bit longer and may give you a better ride (softer sidewall).

The as far as I know RE-01R's are the closest thing you can get to an R compound tire and still be DOT and good in the wet. They are 140 wear so I will only got about 6K out of them. I used to race the 07 in autocross and the track. That is the kind of performance I want from my tire; life span is not an issue. BTW I don't race the new 08 but I like having the grip.
Thanks

Are you done cutting lb's?

Going to track the car perhaps the PS2s are a better choice.

Seems to me that the best way to go would be PS2's in 275/30/19. You get the extra width. You also get the best "normal" max performance tire in terms of grip, ride, and noise levels, as well as retaining a 25lb per tire weight.

Some of the secondary pump stuff needs to be removed yet and then there is the exhaust that needs to be removed and replace by a single and light weight exhaust system. All the plastic panels underneath the car and some metallic ones too are coming off. Also there is going to be the gas tank removal and replacement that should lighten things. There is going to be a major brake modification coming that should reduce the weight too.

The PS2's are definitely superior. Every single time I venture out against my gut to buy another brand/style tire I get punished. I had PS2's on my old S4 and Cayman, and loved it. I replaced my stock PZ on my RS4 for the 275 RE-01's - they are a bit noisy even when brand new, can't imagine how much louder they will get when the tread wears. The RE-01's hold the road well but don't do as well as the PS2's in the rain - Michelin is worth the money. You get what you pay for.

I just bought a cheap little 4'' SuperTrapp for a Miata I am building to race SoloII. It is very light so I will hook it to the cat and loose all the other weight from everything else once removed. I can also uncork it to race. :-)

They are better in the rain, better in the dry, better on the track, and last longer. That's what the guys from Tire Rack said, and they were right.
