I reported a minor leak of power steering fluid (easy to identify because of its green color) a few days ago. I noticed during an oil change Sunday that there was fluid on the far right side of the under-engine splash shield. I called my dealer on Monday hoping for an appointment either today or Friday. They said I could bring it in the next day (Tuesday) at 7:30 a.m. and wait for it. They said is was a loose clamp on a hydraulic hose. (Several other people have reported loose clamps also). I had my car back within 45 minutes. When I got home that night, I removed the splash shield again to clean it up so I could spot any future leaks. I was a little surprised to find that the dealer had already cleaned it, although I proceeded to improve upon their cleaning and make it spotless.
I just thought I would post a postitive service experience (next day service while I waited) and close out my report of a problem.
Dale
I stopped in to ask a question of the service dept. It was a little after 5 pm and their service dept closes at 5, BUT, there were two service advisors there and they were quick to help. One went out to another A4 on the lot to examine it to see if it had a similar "problem."
What was the problem, you may ask? Well, in this lovely $30K+ car, everything was perfect except where the old cupholder used to be. It seems that someone overlooked this bin and the felt "carpeting" that was supposed to be in the bottom wasn't or was damaged. Instead, this ugly black plastic bottom was visible, complete with stamped lettres and numbers, how ugly, how unfinished, how disappointing!
WELL, we went out and looked at another 99 A4 and sure enough, IT had the carpeting. Boy was I gipped, I said to the service guy as I poked my finger at the felt pointedly, "Maybe this could be fixed." At exactly the same moment, R index finger came into contact with said felt and...IT MOVED. No it was not alive or anything, but it definitely was mobile. So, I poked again, and it flipped over and what was I looking at? Well, the same ugly black plastic that I had been staring at for a week thinking "how stupid am I."
Just to be thorough, the service advisor suggested we go "examine your car, just to make sure that is the solution (insert friendly laughter)." But, sure enough, he wanted to be thorough and sure enough, all it needed was to be flipped over and voila, felt carpeted bottom to the bin presto chango.
All the same, we got a good laugh out of this and he was really nice to have offered to go out in the rain, after closing, and help me make a fool of myself and solve my problem at the same time.
Kirk
99 A4 2.8Qtip with full factory felt carpeting in ALL of my bins...even the looney bin
