Has anyone spent any significant time in a Maserati? Do you think the "S" version correct some of the serious deficiencies of the T including the tranny?

...some of the deficiencies of the GT (particularly the transmission, handling, sound and brakes) should be addressed by the S version.
The increased bump is HP (~35bhp) remains a concern as there is a feeling that the power-to-weight issue may not be greatly affected by a marginal increase in HP. To be determined.
That said,IMO, the GT/GTS remains one of the best, if not "the" best, looking autos in production...inside and out...but that's me.

There's the power bump, bigger 6-pot brakes, stiffer conventional coil-over suspension, some cosmetic tack-ons like 20" rims, and of course a transaxle transmission: where the diff, the gearbox, and the drive axle are in one integrated unit at the rear. Supposedly this new electrically actuated gearbox will use the same software from the 599 Fiorano, meaning faster shifting and all that crap. I've never driven a 599 but I bet that $280k buys you a pretty damn good paddle-shift gearbox... so the you'll get essentially a similar gearbox in the "more affordable" Gran Turismo S package.
