View Full Version : Poll: What is your average operating oil temparature range during normal driving? gtc 09-13-2007, 03:33 PM Bob W. 09-13-2007, 03:36 PM McGyver 09-13-2007, 03:47 PM brianja 09-13-2007, 04:17 PM daveak05 09-13-2007, 04:20 PM tracking a car, it's hard to avoid, live with it...change out the oil soon. but just jumping on it briefly and seeing that kind of elevated oil temp is a bit surprising. are the oil temp gauges on the RS4 accurate? has anybody checked? McGyver 09-13-2007, 05:45 PM I hit them hard (2nd gear red-line) and hit the on ramps at 3rd gear red-line. . . over several locations (about 10 minutes worth of abuse). At that point, it will climb to 240-250. On the way back, in 6th, it cools down rapidly. So, I should have elaborated a bit on my orig. post. daveak05 09-13-2007, 05:50 PM and in that case, forget i said anything : ) Evil Buddha 09-13-2007, 05:58 PM Silver Fun 09-13-2007, 05:59 PM James P. 09-13-2007, 06:31 PM Not sure how much difference living at 6000 feets makes... But I have seen the add oil light a couple of times. gtc 09-16-2007, 08:09 PM I noticed that my average commuting engine oil temperature has increased a few degrees after passing 15k. It's not significant by any means but whereas I used to stay under 214, I now regularly see up to 219 on my daily commute with my same driving pattern. I typically keep my revs under 4k the entire 25 miles to work. The engine oil temperature cools down quickly too. One moment it will be at 219, the next moment it will drop to 208. I'm not concerned but this is true for my car. |
