On my way home last night, my low oil light came on on my RS4. I made it home before the green light turned to a red light so hopefully there was no damage.

I am wondering if other RS4 owners have had this happen. I have not thought to check the oil on a car with only 2k miles. My last 15 yrs worth of cars never had low oil levels after this few miles.

I could not find any oil leak marks on my garage floor, so don't think it is a leak. I was concerned because I have run the car to the rev limiter while still cold and the keep under 7k rpm reminder was on (not on purpose mind you) so thought I may have blown a gasket or something.

Also, what oil are people using for this car? The manual has an unfamilair oil rating suggestion, but also says 5W30.

So she is parked today and rode my R1 to work to be able to use the commuter lane.

They suggested Castrol Syntec SAE 5W40. Any thoughts?

That oil will be fine - Just check the oil level weekly

oil min light came on and my dealer was not sure of what was in the car allready. I had audi perform the change, and $175 later i have new oil and 2.5 qts in the trunk of castrol 5w-40.

checked my oil level at 1300 miles-was right at the MIN level-no lights came on and it was very dark. was planning on getting oil change at 1500 miles-i went and changed it and oil level has been great so far.
I have not added any i am at just under 2k miles.
I am starting to push the car a little now-I have hit 8000 rpm a handful of times.

I am checking the oil once a week

I paid $90 for the change and $15 bucks for 2 quarts.

It's the nature of the engine design. After the 1st oil change, which many of us do around 2K miles, oil consumption goes to near zero from then on.

Any oil that you put in the engine will need to be changed every 3K miles or so, because of the way this engine beats on the oil and pumps fuel into it. Castrol has not shown well in analysis. Elf, Motul and Amsoil do better. Some are starting to try Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5W-40. You might try that. Same here. Checked at 1400 miles and was at "MIN". Getting oil changed at 1500 next week.

My oil min light came on at about 10200 miles after about an hour and a half of hard driving in the Palomar mountains. I was hitting about 6k-8k rpm coming out of the turns so I was really beating on the engine. It came on during my drive home. I called audi and they said its normal and to just top it off. When the oil min comes on it means the engine is about a quart off. They said to use Castrol Syntec 5w30. But i've read that Castrol Syntec is not the best oil which could be causing the oil consumption.
