View Full Version : Why don't any auto companies design OEM wheels with a lip?

I've had high end BMW's, Porsche, and Audi, and none had even as much as a 1/4" lip. Mercedes comes close with AMG wheels, but not a true lip. I really think having that lip on the wheel really sets it off.

As with anything, it can be overdone. Tasteful is good.

This was the 3-piece OEM wheel that came with my 330Ci. I'd say it's got a lip.

Even on $70k, $80k, $100k, $200k cars, why don't companies put on lighter forged wheels from the factory? The wheels are almost always casted and heavier. I would have gladly paid a few thousand more for factory forged 20 lb wheels on the RS4.
