(An R8 would be the easy choice, but the fold down rear seats of the S6 and RS4/5(?) are also desirable)

if money's no object, why don't you get a RS6 (C5) and have someone put a euro 6spd manual tranny in it...then chip/exhaust it and you've got about 550hp. that might tide you over until the C6 RS6 comes along.
none of the cars you listed respond particularly well to power mods....unless you're thinking supercharger.
to answer your question, I might consider the RS5, but probably not if it has the exact same engine as the RS4....if that's the case, I'd just keep the RS4.

I think it's the best Audi available. I'm not a fan of coupes (so I wouldn't choose the RS5) unless we're talking about Ferrari, Lamborghini, etc. The R8 is amazing but not my idea of an ideal daily driver (get it if it's not your daily driver). And I wouldn't get the S6 because it's not available as a manual.
But again, I'm highly biased.

I prefer 2-door sports cars that are rwd, lighter, preferably with a GT3 badge on the back :)
But if I had to have a 2-door as a daily and only car, I guess the R8 wouldn't be a bad choice.

Over a Bentley GT coupe, E63, and Porsche 997 Twin Turbo, and I would pick it over the RS5, R8, and S6 for the same reason I picked over the group above. It is the best balance of performance and practicality and the extra cost of the others don't help their cause on that comparison.

Then again you could argue you're just holding yourself over with something else while you wait for the V10 R8 :D

I just picked up a new A8L for an uncle... sometimes I like the responsive ease of the new tourqe laden slush box cars.
I do like the R8..but a two seater is only so useful. I could never justify anything but a manual in that car. An RS4 in a one-off color, with the MTM supercharger might be the ticket!
If an Avant was possible, I would jump on it.
I get my manual tranny kicks in a bunch of other cars, so a "grown-up" 10 cylinder sedan might be nice.
Thanks all for an entertaining romp into
Audi-dom!

Don't need four seats so the R8 would work just fine. Too bad that there's no way to get one from Audi now unless I don't mind waiting for a long long time...
New RS6 (if it comes to America) just sounds insane... 600bhp, 650bhp (whatever it ends up being) is going to be a rocket. I feel sorry for the M5...
Seriously considering an RS4 as we speak.

...I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part. And you're just the guy to do it.
Let's do it!!!!! go go go go go go go!

as I recall, you looked into twin turbos for the RS4...do you think the R8 engine bay has room?
so you sold the green machine, eh?

I believe there is no better representative in the "form follows function" at any price than this RS4.
