I talked to the concierge last week and they said the RS4 policy may change (i.e. they may let people drive the cars again at some point), but suggested I call back the week before the Dallas event.

I drove 4 hours from Reno to San Francisco for the event. We made a weekend of the trip and did a number of non-Audi things. At SOT you can see an S8 which is nice. The RS4 ride is short! You can probably drive your own RS4 in a month if you decide to get it. The 4-5 hour drive would not be worth it if you were going only for the short RS4 ride. If you have other things to do in Dallas or just want to see a bunch of Audis, I would go.
