Hi everyone,

I just traded in a '04 Lexus RX330 for a 2008 Audi TT, so I am new to the forums. I decided on the TT after having test driven a Nissan Z and Lexus SC.

The Z looked and felt cheap, the Lexus was almost $20k more. The TT was a perfect mix of fun to drive and the luxury features I loved about my RX.

The car is amazingly fun to drive. I am really digging the car... We have an office pool going on when I will get my first speeding ticket. I keep surprising myself looking down at the speed and realizing I am cursing at 85 down the freeway.

Question for the people who got Sirius radio with your new cars. Was the radio already activated for you? Or did you have to activate it? My dealership said I would get 3 months free but I only seem to be able to tune ~12 stations. I must be doing something wrong.

I must say that I am pretty disappointed in the iPod controls. The mp3 meta data is not displayed on either of the screens at all. In fact the interface treats play lists on the iPod as CDs 1-5 and each of the songs are Tracks. So when I insert my iPod the first 5 play lists (I am not sure what happens if you have more than 5 play lists) are available as CD 1 though CD 5. Each song on the "CDs" are listed as Track 1- Tack 99. Apparently 99 is the limit on the display as it starts counting over again after that.

This is a horrible interface for an iPod. Considering I have roughly 60 gigs of music (well over 30,000 individual songs) and audio books loaded on mine, it is barely usable.

When we were demoing the feature at the dealership, I wanted to see the iPod doc in action. The sales guy put my iPod in and played a song. He explained to me at the time that it would take a while for the meta data to be displayed on the screen. I think he was confused with the bluetooth phonebook downloading to the system..

So, all in all I am very happy with my new car. The iPod thing is somewhat of a bummer though. I would recommend you pass on it if you are having to pay for the upgrade it is not worth it.

Few more pics here...

Most OEM iPod interfaces are the same. It's because the head units usually don't actually support it - so they make it emulate a CD changer.

It's still better than a line-in, since you can skip tracks from the radio / steering wheel, and you can toggle Shuffle mode. It's better sound quality than an FM or tape converter. And you can hide it out of the way. But yeah, it sucks that it can't get metadata. *Especially* for those with the Nav+ system, since the SD card player is actually quite nice and the iPod should work the same way.

As for Sirius - you will receive something in the mail in about a week or so. You call the 800 number and activate it over the phone. They send a signal while you have the car on, and it activates in about 30 seconds. You can probably call them before you get the thing in the mail, if you're anxious to try it. I like it. My old car had XM which was okay, but I think I like the Sirius a little better. Not sure if I use it enough to justify paying once the trial is up, though.

Ahh well at least its not sub-par right? I suppose I will get used to it. Thanks for the info in Sirius.

This is my first performance car. I have become quite the car enthusiast over the last couple years, I think mainly due to the XBOX 360, it's racing wheel and games like Need for Speed and Forza.

Anything special I should know as a newb to this specific car and enthusiasm?

Considering that the Sirius and XM modules can pass data to the head-unit, I would have thought that Audi would have crafted a iPod interface that connected to that same bus. Instead, we got crappy CD-Changer emulation instead. :(

I don't need my whole iTunes library with me in the car all of the time. I just load a few of my favorite playlists onto the cards, listen to them for a week or two and then delete and reload new ones.

You can organize your playlists to display all the track info.

Cheers!

I didn't want to like Sirius, but there is so much on there to like. The trial that came with the car has convinced me to signup for the service.

In the MOST systems, you get that great interface. On the CAN systems, we get the shaft.

Why Audi didn't use MOST in the TT is beyond me. You look at the demographic for iPod owners, and the TT goes hand-in-hand. The A8 however, with the great iPod interface, probably doesn't get used by most customers.

They don't know crap about what they're selling and, instead of admitting they don't know something, they make some stupid $h1t up which most customers will obviously believe.

Poor guy left the dealer convinced all his iPod interface needed was time to display his song titles.

ARGH!!!

Notmyself,

I apologize for getting back to you so late. I am off on Tues and Wends. I will get you the phone number to set up your sirius, they will ask for some personal info to set up you account. As for the Ipod. I am going to have to do a little homework because in every other car from A4-A8 has loaded the entire list off the Ipod. I brought the issue up to a co-worker who mentioned having the Iphone load the entire MP3 list in and A6. I hope to have an answer by this afternoon.

Sirius - 1888-539-7474

Thank you,
Salesman

Notmyself,

I have put in emails the Audi Technical support, the west coast trainers and the Service Support group for answers to this Ipod issue. I did read that you might want to get an up date on your Iphone for better Bluetooth support called "firmwire update".

Cheers,
Salesman

It looks like the salesman seriously didn't know. It also kinda looks like the whole dealership didn't know.

Or he's making things up.

I'm pretty sure ever the MMI cars (A6 / A8) don't display iPod info without special mods.
