This is all I know. I was informed by my dealer (the 2nd largest Audi dealership in NC), on May 14th, that my order had finally been "accepted," by Audi Germany. That's it. Since then my dealer can/will not commit to any dates on anything.

Ordered:

2008 TT Coupe 2.0, Auto S-tronic
Papaya Orange Exterior
Premium Interior Package
18-inch 7-arm Alloy Wheels - All Season Tires

Understand, I put $1500 dowm payment February 23rd for my order, and it was implied by the salesman I'd have my car by mid-June. And I'm paying cash and MRSP.

Two questions:
How pissed should I be?
More important, does anyone have any reality info on production, delivery dates of Special Color Orders?
Thanks in advance for input.

No reason for your delay... unless their allocation was sold until now? How hot is your market? Here in Oregon if you aren't too picky you can get one off the lot... if you want to order allocation is off for a few months!

Last week he told me my car was "in production" but he had no way of knowing whether that meant it was just a metal shell sitting around or if it was on the assembly line. Said the first time he will know anything is when my car is completed and ready to be shipped from Germany. Does this make any sense?

I know when Pearl White was available as a $1,200 option up unitl 2002, one could wait for sometime before delivery. Audi AG only painted Pearl White around once-a-month, or when they had x-amount of orders on hand. Something about the cost of setting up for a special paint process.

So, Audi AG probably waits until it has a certain number of whatever special colors are ordered before painting them. Saves on time and setup cost.

As far as delivery goes, the salesman was telling you the truth. Audi AG informs the dealer when the car is in production, finished, waiting at port for shipment, shipping, waiting at US port for release. I think I got them all.

Once your car is in production, it should be less than a month away from when you'll be drivig it. Again, it all depends when the car arrives in port in Germany, and when the next ship leaves. Then, it depends on how many cars are in the port where your car is going and how fast then can get it out of port. Make sure your sales person informs the port the car is pre-sold, as they'll push that one first.

Hope that helps?

Do you mind me asking how much Audi is charging for special paints these days?

I tried getting my 2001 TT Roadster painted Pearl White. Was approved by AoA but Audi AG nixed the deal. Would've been a cool TT for sure.
