I was extremely skeptical about getting a car that was frontwheel drive. My current and previous cars were both A4 Quattro's and I always felt safe especially at high speeds. Grip was never a concern for me.

Having said that, I really likes the new TT but since the 3.2 (with the options I wanted) was out of my budget, I decided to give the frontrak a shot.

What has been your experience with it? and those of you that had a similar decision to make, which way did you go and why?

'nt.

My wife has a CVT A4 and also a 2.0T DSG A3. I have spent considerably time driving both, the comparisssion to that of the Quattro Audis that I drive...I just cannot get into the FWD thing....alot of wheel spin and I dont like the stability in the rain....which is not bad, just amazing how diffrent it feels compared to quattro.

The 2.0T is a good tunable engine but IMO the 3.2 is where it is at.

Just to humor yourself, go drive the 3.2....like I told you to.

being much closer to the TT type setup then the A4...weight, S-Tronic...etc...mad wheelspin yo....especially from a dig with ESP off....

Wheels spin pretty freely on that thing, partly because the 2.0T is one torquey engine.

Took me a while to get used to driving it in the rain (after having two Quattro A4s before). Handling in the dry was actually quite superb, and not much at all in the way of torque steer.

It was just hard to grab the ground off the line. And putting a chip in that thing, while a no-brainer of a decision for me, makes it FAR worse. Right after I got the APR software in the A3, I kept spinning my wheels in SECOND (at ~30mph, in a straight line), until I learned the necessary throttle modulation technique.

Some days I regret buying the 3.2... for one, it drinks gas like it's going out of style. Plus I just know it's slower than a chipped 2.0T would be. It's not that the 3.2 is a bad engine, but rather that the 2.0T is a stellar one.

But then other days I just feel so happy that I have Quattro again, and that VR6 sound is glorious. Plus I don't think the 2.0T comes in a manual, and as much as I like the S-Tronic and know that it's faster... I just have more fun with a stick.

I don't claim to have an easy answer either way, though. On the bright side, I don't think you can really go wrong - they're both great cars.

Unfortunately, neither is as great as a 2.0T Quattro option would be, IMO.

the 3.2 has plenty on the way as well with the crazy tweakers who owned the R32 and the S/C's and turbos already out for them. But a chip and exhaust in addition to the lighter weight of the 2.oT and savings without quattro should make that thing a blast to drive and probably much more fun than the stock 3.2. Throw in a stasis suspension and you have a street carver made for the track.

Just traded-in my 03 TT 225Q for the 2.0T S-Line Coupe.

Yes, if you really hammer it you'll get a little wheel-spin, but there is no torque-steer to speak of. With proper throttle control, you'd never know it was FWD, especially with the MR suspension.

If you live in a wet climate, the Quattro may be important. I live in California, so it is seldom an issue.

The 2.0T is by far, and without a doubt, more fun to drive than the 3.2Q. The 3.2Q sounds a bit better, but the 2.0T is where the pure fun is. When that turbo kicks in, there is no other feeling that can come close. With only 250HP, all the extra weight of the 3.2 over the nose, the Quattro parts, etc. the 3.2Q just doesn't feel as good as the 2.0T. I wanted to like the 3.2Q, but at a $6k premium, I don't think it is worth it unless you need the wet-weather traction.

In addition, several of the tuners mentioned that the current stock TT 2.0T dynos at 200HP at the wheels. This suggests that Audi is under-rating the motor and it is putting out more to the tune of 220HP.

So if you're looking for an instant performance gain, the 2.0T tuning from the likes of GIAC takes the 2.0T into the 240-250HP range with lots more available torque. With the 3.2 you'd need to spend $5K + on a turbo/supercharger kit, making the nose even more heavy, and it will still, IMHO be less-fun than the 2.0T

Having recently driven (yesterday) a 2.0T TT w/ the GIAC software ;) , the additional HP does not overwhelm the FWD. The HP and torque in the 2.0T FSI seems to come on a little later, and prevents the wheel-spin.

I was at a GIAC dealer yesterday and he was delivering a 3.2 supercharged A4 to a customer. After he had a ride in the GIAC equipped 2.0T TT, he said something to the effect... "good thing the A4 guy didn't drive this as he'd like this a lot better."

Now then, a 2.0T Quattro is probably the best of both worlds, but until then, I saw nothing wrong with the FWD, and I didn't hesitate in getting rid of the 03 TTQ.

My guess is that this GIAC TT I drove will easily take any 3.2 TT, old or new... Just not when it is raining!

because the B7 A4 2.0T has Quattro. the only concern of mine is the wheelspin that everyone mentioned.

no bass, no lows, no highs, seriously dreadful. I figured your stuff might go in from the a4, but just a heads up. I cant listen to some songs just because its torture hearing the Bose system destroy a depeche mode song

I had read nothing but negatives on the Bose so I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was quite good. In fact, I've been listening to the Sirius "1st wave" channel, and the depeche mode sounded great to me.

Very accurate, tight bass, and nothing over-driven. Sometimes I think the people that complain are those that have never experienced a truly balanced and accurate sound system.

Sure, I remember all the cars I've had with custom systems. Highs that could make your eyes bleed, Bass that could stop your heart from beating... but in the end it wasn't very accurate, and at the same time, it was tiring to listen to.

I for one think the Bose is quite good... Maybe they've improved it in the S-Line.

did you get a different system? my system has no bass or lows or highs. maybe the side speakers were broken during transport?

I've got the Nav Plus + Bose if that makes any difference.
