i need some help here
as of right now, it seems like the mkv r32 is out of the question because it will only come with dsg, i know how great dsg is, i currently own a mkv gti with dsg, and it is truly amazing but its time for a change

so it now comes down to the 335i coupe or the mkII 3.2 TT

i've been thinking long and hard
but still cant make up my mind
any suggestions would be great
but please no flaming
thanks

After being surprised by the MkII pricing somewhat, I've been going back and forth over the Z4 coupe (with sports package to push the engine governor out to 155 mph) and 335i with the sports package. The 335i has always come out more affordable than either, similarly equipped.

Audi had better come with a more interesting engine/drivetrain selection if they want my money. I can easily do w/o a new car payment... as can, I am sure, most people.

Also, there is something really bothersome for me about the TT being limited to 130 mph. They should remove the limiter on their top model, in my opinion. The fact that my 2002 isn't limited to 130 mph makes it much easier for me to stay put.

Again, I am absolutely sure that very few of us actually *need* a new car. I think that most of us will be much better served waiting it out.

How does it feel to know that the Nissan Altima coupe is here w/ a 270 horsepower V-6?

I'm going to put my "new car fund" away for now and let it grow and earn more interest.

The only other car that I cross shopped was the 335i. It is a very nice and fast car, but the reason I spent my money on the TT was styling and feel. The 335i is boring to look at and BMW didn't do enough to separate it from the sedan. If you would see a 335i and a TT (Mk1 or Mk2) driving past you, which would make your head turn? Compared to the TT the BMW interior is not even in the same league. I do like the extenders on the sport seats for your thighs. Of course the 335i has more room and a usable back seat but in my mind if you need the use of a back seat for more than the rare occasion then buy a sedan. I felt more part of the TT than the BMW and the seating position was much nicer, plus the flat bottomed steering wheel is a perfect fit.

I felt as though I drove the dealer's nuts, that was how often I went to go look at both. I drove the 335i three times and the 2.0T twice and the 3.2Q once. All three cars are more than powerful enough. One 335i that I drove had the paddle shifters and one 2.0T had DSG. The BMW system is way behind DSG but neither one made me want it. It seems that paddle shifters were made for life long automatic drivers that want to see what all the fuss is about shifting gears. I know the DSG is "faster" but I like to shift myself and feel more involved. I wanted a stick and Quattro so that is why I went with the 3.2Q, and with the second gen of haldex 40% is sent to the rear wheels and it can send 100% if need be and that came from two separate Audi dealers.

Hope this helps.

I want a stick, and the 3.2 seems a little stiff on the dollars. So I am thinking of the 350Z convert (305hp), the 08 vette (rumored to be coming out with 425 hp),the z4(not big on the styling, Z4coupe, and the SLK350,as well as anything new coming out next year. The TT 6 speed is getting a little too rich for me for what you are getting. 335i looks are very plain to me, but bmw pricing also includes maintenance.

Exactly the cars I would be looking at as well (I presently have an '05 3.2). The value proposition of the new TT is troubling to me. Audi has "unbundled" some of the features that were standard with the previous generation. By the time you include the premium package and enhanced interior, plus xenons, it's way more expensive. And compared to BMW, Audi just doesn't have the engine range. From all reports, the new twin-turbo BMW six is stellar. I, too, would like to get back to a stick shift from the DSG. In the new TT, that means the 3.2. Trouble is, it just sucks gas and I don't think Audi has updated it much (doesn't have direct injection like the 2.0t). Audi hasn't quite put the total package together with the new TT in the U.S: sleek, predominantly aluminum body, decent chassis, but completely mismatched engine/transmission combinations.

But you are right, when you add the leather, different color leather if you want, etc. dollars getting high.

the Z4, TT, and most of the other cars in this segment have plenty of creativity and imagination...the 335 is just....boring!

Until the prices are released any comments on positioning is sheer speculation.

first off, you all have been really helpful
and i appreciate it, keep those comments/suggestions coming

as much as i love the a5/s5, it will be out of my price range, sadly =[

and the z4 coupe is really common around my area, i literally see 5 of them a day on average

my dealer quoted me $1500 off invoice for the 3.2 TT with the options i want

is it a good deal?
anyone knows what the invoice prices are on the 2.0 and 3.2 TT?

and ive never owned an audi before, so i was wondering how is the resale value?

thanks

argh

I read somewhere that the invoice is about 5% below MSRP. The invoice will be $2250 below MSRP if your TT is at $45k. So $1250 over invoice equates to $1000 offMSRP or about 2% off.

It might be easier to compare if you get a actual quote.

... its wheelbase is the same length as the forthcoming B8 A4.

The A5 is essentially an A4 coupe, and should be considered if one is also looking at the 335i coupe.

just cause it is the lightest of all the cars and the 3.2 is a sweet motor and it is still a unique looking car out there ...

Hopefully we wont see the new TT at every corner as we see the 3 Series.

fwiw, i tested a 328 (BMW Coupe) and the windnoise was awful. I blame the frameless window design. Not sure how a TT will fare since it too has no fully framed door. At autobahn speeds 90 to 110 mph is was deafining. Having said that, the BM did hit the 130 (135??) speed limiter very easily.

I hope to try a MK II TT today to see if it does any better.
