I fell victim to a failed coil pack on Friday. Cruising along at about 100 mph I heard a *POW* and my car sounded like a dang WRX. I was driving home from Las Vegas and was in Cedar City - a little over 215 miles from home, and about 175 miles from Las Vegas with no Audi or VW dealers with coil packs in between. I had Vag-Com on my laptop and my cable with me so I was able to pull the codes to find out exactly what had happened.

Here's the good ending to the story - I called Ken Garff Audi where I normally have my service work done. It just so happened that my Audi tech was heading down my way after work on Friday evening to go Rock Crawling. He got the coil pack from parts and after waiting a few hours for him he showed up and replaced my coil pack and I was on my way home. If that's not extreme customer service I don't know what is...

We hear many stories here about bad service. In this case my dealer went above and beyond.

John

PS - I'm going to start carrying a coil pack with me...

I look at it kind of like Blackjack. If someone on the table takes a card when they shouldn't, then it has an effect on everyone down the chain.

Had Steve not destroyed my clutch at the track, the coil pack would have probably died earlier when I was somewhere close to home and could have been fixed more easily. Since the car was down with a destroyed clutch, the coil pack didn't go out until I was hundreds of miles away from repair.
