But it's just my opinion. If you are already into the car so much money, it doesn't really make any sense to put thousands more building it up, just to sell it. People won't pay for the mods done and are more likley to pay more for a stock car, just because nobody has messed with it.

Sucks to hear when things like that happen. I have a TT in the shop that lost it's timing belt at 63K, not fun.
