View Full Version : I survived my first laser hit since installing the Veil and plate shield

Awhile back I installed an anti-reflective front license plate cover, and Veil on my headlights and fog lights. The few times I saw what looked like laser radar units in operation I didn't have my detecter fired up to give me any feedback on what was going on.

This morning on the way to work the radar detecter alerted to a laser hit as I was cresting a hill southbound on 215 (on the eastern loop) about 4500 S.

UHP was sitting about 150 feet away on the shoulder; I was going about 10 over...no big deal, but I was definitely the fastest in the little group around me.

The thing that surprised me was how quickly the detecter alerted. It was almost simultaneous with when I had line of sight on the unit. I suspect there was enough scatter that I was able to pick it up before he even had a line on anything reflective on my Audi.

That UHP officer really chose a bad spot to sit, IMHO. It would have been fine for traditional radar, but he gave up almost all the advantages of laser in that position....plus there's a posted 55mph (construction?) zone just around the corner that everybody seems to ignore in the morning.

Nord...any feedback on your VEIL application?

and will wear off quicker in the snow/salt of the winter.

Was that UHP cruiser you saw on I-215 SB, east bench, right before the 4500S bridge, on the right side / slow lane?

Saw him this morning. Funny thing is, I just instinctively slow down as I approach that bridge. Cops frequently hide under it (by the left most / fast lane). Or are hiding just around the bend.

I had to look it over again this morning, but that's the place. I usually see them on the left side there, too.
