Volunteer appreciation day, had the western half of the kart track to ourselves (east track was for people paying). A good 12 or more people showed up. Had a blast.

If you haven't treated yourself to the kart track there, DO IT!

But it feels faster, cuz you are 2 inches off the ground. Lots of fun though.

And yeah, $55 for 1/2 hour. Should be something like 3 ten minute sessions, because trust me, you'll want the break.

Today learned the whole understeer/oversteer thing with the karts. Had one kart for a session that oversteered like crazy, had to keep countersteering it. Then later had one that understeered like a pig (gee kinda like an Audi), and OMG was that frustrating.

Assuming the weather holds up, I'd be up for heading out there the first weekend of Nov (out of town this weekend, Skip Barber racing the next).

I don't think the track workers are very strict about the ten minutes, and that way you get breaks between sessions. That track is a blast!

we did a 30 minute block, but it was basically 3 ten minute sessions. So you got a much deserved break. I doubt they'd let you drive for a full 30 minutes without interruption.

And given that it takes 30 minutes to drive out there, each way, 10 minutes of kart time seems awfully small.

Next time you are in SLC, we can head out to MMP and let you rip up the go karts.

If I had the cash (need roughly $5k total), I'd totally pick up a used kart for racing next season. Something like Rotax, which is one of the cheaper race series due to the engine being sealed (kinda like a Spec series). But I'm cash poor right now, so it will have to wait a little while.

A. 4 point harness for driver seat
B. Oil cooler
C. Sway bar
D. Track rims + track tires

Which I'm guessing when all said and done will probably be in the $2500 range. And will make tracking the car a much more enjoyable experience.

I'd love to get a BBK on there, but thats basically $2500 on its own.

I was thinking of three ten minute blocks, but if that is what they give you when you buy thirty minutes, then thirty minutes would be the way to go.

I was able to stay out on the track during my last open lapping day when everyone else was going in due to overheating, brake fade, etc. My rubber was the only thing weak point Proxy T1A's (they'd get soft around lap 7 or 8).

You can take a couple laps in my car next spring and see for yourself! The setup you're describing works very well :)

ps, keep your eyes on the classifieds...I got my sways, harnesses, track wheels for 250 + 150 + 1000 = 1750 + 400 for oil cooler = 2150.

but you were on the track. It is a blast, isn't it. My wife actually beat me on our second go round, but my cart had HUGE oversteer.

we were there from about noon till around 2pm, racing at least half that time. I tried probably 6 different karts, we kinda had a policy of not allowing someone to use the same kart twice.

One of them (kart 14) was obviously the fastest. Kart 8 was quick, but big oversteer issues. Kart 1 was an understeering pig. Forget the others but some were nicely balanced, some weren't.

But having experienced big oversteer versus big understeer, give me oversteer any day. Least I can control that with throttle and steering. Understeer just pushes.
