Traffic court today over that "too fast for conditions" ticket back in March. Cop did show up so we had to do the whole thing.
Basically came down to me having snow tires, AWD, and having been to the winter driving school, and the judge found me not guilty. But chastised me for passing a cop. Which at this point, I fully agree with.
Total time spent: roughly 8 hours. Ticket price: $92 (at least at one point). Worth it? Not really. But its the principle of the thing.

A. never, ever, ever, ever pass a cop in the snow. I don't care how much in the right you think you are, just don't.
B. if they offer a plea with abeyance, just take it.
C. do not represent yourself unless you are really comfortable with it and know what you are doing.
Seriously, the Utah traffic court is so fvcking skewed towards screwing over the defendants (aka us).

So I was driving around later Sunday night in a more spirited manner on I-215. I was driving in TIP and I had just passed the 3900 south entrance onto the freeway in the far left fast lane. When I noticed a sheriff, I had seen him up there a bit and at that point I was going 80-ish in a 65.
(BTDT, got a ticket in Fillmore for 92 in a 65, complete bs, but that is a different story for a different time.)
I look to my immediate front right fender the next second and there is ANOTHER sheriff tagging along. At that second I slam my brakes on to about 60-ish and get over into the middle lane behind him. He then proceeds to slow down and I slow down, because I am behind him. He then BRAKE CHECKS me to 40 MPH on the FREEWAY in the MIDDLE LANE!!! (Pretty good adrenaline rush if I do say so myself). At that point seemed like we were at a dead stop in the middle of the freeway, I was in no hurry to pass him and he was in no hurry to let me off the hook. He then flips his lights on for a couple seconds and at that point I said to myself alright, alright I will pull over. So I go to get into the far right slow lane and a car is right there. I swerve back to dodge the car. The stop almost completely and I gun in past the car on my rear right and the cop on my left. I then pull over in the side of the road. I then just sit there and wait for him to jump out. He jumps out rather quick, assuming he ran my plates and called in that he was at a stop. He then comes to my window and says to me, why didn't you want to pass me? I respond, I was going a little bit faster that I should have been going Officer. He then says, what are you trying to do, cause a ten car pile up! (Mind you, he was the one who was in front, I was just behind him. He brake checked me not vise versa.) Then he asked me if my car was MINE! The nerve of some police officers! LOL! I said yes SIR, this is MY CAR! Then he asks for my registration, license, and driving license. I open up my glove box and grab the folder I have designated to use when I get pulled over. It has all of the info in it that I need. It also has my front license plate that is suppose to be on the front of the car. :D haha! I gave him my registration, my insurance card, and then my license. One by one, didn't want him to rush back to his car too quick ;).
FYI: I have the Escort Passport 8500 x50 along with the Escort ZR3 Laser "Shifter". So I know he did not have his gun on and I never passed him. Police officers can always give you a ticket, just because, they can make a reason up and you don't have a choice but to go with it. I got my last ticket for five over because the police officer thought I was going too fast! (COMPLETE BS AGAIN!)
He went back to his car and let me sweat it out for about 5-8 minutes. He then comes back and says to me and I quote: "pull your head out and drive safer". I then say thank you officer and have a good night. I then pull slowly away and five seconds later I'm already going 70 haha! I then sit back and put it on cruise control in the slow lane at 65 and get off at 6200 south!
Thought I would share.
Enjoy :D
