TisforTurbo 11-14-2005, 11:12 AM not like the setup of this forum? i dont like it at all, i find it confusing to follow a topic, well just confusing in general. isnt cody gonna set up a simple php style one? nord1899 11-14-2005, 11:34 AM It allows threads to have tangents and more easily follow the tangent. Rather than have everything in one flat post (ala Vortex), if you want to address one person or one part of a topic, you create a tangent and go off with it. And everyone can follow what you are doing without an excessive need for quoting. It prevents "bump", "ttt", etc. Seriously go look at the Rocky Mountain forums on the Vortex and see how many threads have at least 1/4 of the posts are just that. No real content added, just someone bumping up a thread that was still on the front page and got bumped only 2 days ago. You can put all your text in the subject line (look for the yellow NT icon) so I don't even have to click on your post to read it. Instead, just read the subject line and get what I need. Now thats not saying its perfect. The lack of bumping does present issues on forums that have a lot of activity, like Off Topic (AWOT). Tends to lead to a lot of reposts. The lack of stickies (sorry Neil but the little stickies at the tops don't really compare) also doesn't help. Makes it difficult to put in FAQs or upcoming events, which would help reduce reposts. But as a conversational forum, this style is the best out there. Once I got used to this, its hard to deal with the flat style of all the rest. And seeing all those "ttt", "bump" posts just make me cringe. Scott Free 11-14-2005, 11:40 AM It takes a lot to make me raise my voice, but that was worth it. bump = most annoying thing on the interwebs. And emoticons. Oh god, I hate emoticons. neilm 11-14-2005, 11:51 AM Jim II 11-14-2005, 12:17 PM TisforTurbo 11-16-2005, 08:24 PM well i DO like how you can read a whole topic in a small area, it was just a little overwhelming to see allllll these links, but im getting used to it. so say i want to go off on one of these "tangents", do i click "post followup" or reply"? nord1899 11-16-2005, 08:34 PM Enter in any message text you want. And click "post reply". Only do post new thread if thats what you intend. Otherwise just post a reply to who you want to reply to. |
