I am in the market for a brand new a3 (2.0t quattro) but I have to purchase the insanely expensive vonvenience package just to be eligible for a nav. Can i use retrofit the one from vagnavs.com? (it lists 2003-2008 as compatible years) any downside to doing this? ie would i get an older unit or lose any functionality?

Just need a GPS antenna and a VAG-COM to get it working. Plugs right in to the existing quad lock connector. Have a look at navplus.us for all the info you need. Very helpful group over there.

Though it will plug in fine, I would imagine the 09 is no different in the quadlock pinout than was the 08 meaning the Bose pin is wrongly located (if applicable) and there is a K-Line in part of the harness that was either supposed to be somewhere else or not supposed to be there at all on the RNS-E.
