Sombody from the A6 forum mentioned that some of you guys may be able to help so here goes: I am now having my 2006 Audi A6 Avant in for service for the third time for the same problem. Something is draining the battery. First they replaced the battery. That did not help. Then they replaced the GPS unit. That also did not fix it. Now they are telling me that it is a problem with the radio Amplifier. I am concerned it may be the wiring of the car? Has anybody seen a problem like this?

I also asked them to upgrade my MMI software now that they have the car anyways. My current version is 10.7.0 and I understand there is a 11.9.0 version out there. I figure they probably fixed some issues like the problem with the Surround sound setting not being saved. The dealership refuses to upgrade it and say that the new version may not be compatible with my car. I do not believe that. I am sure they just don't want to bother. Has anybody had their software updated from 10.7.0 and did they have any problems? I bought my A6 in October 2005. Regards, Tom.

....if you had problem with battery from the beginning it is mostlikely ALARM/GROUND wire attached to connector in DIN compartment.

Sounds like simmilar problem people have with incorrectly wired adapters for RNS-E.

Cutting/removing GROUND wire from the connector should fix the problem (unless it is something else)

About firmware upgrade...
It is possible but many of dealeships doesn't have access to upgrade disks. AOA is not that "advanced" as their European colegues are and they know nothing or very little about that.
I don't expect that you will be able to find any dealer willing to do it or willing to get proper upgrade disk.

All navigation systems are coming from factory "as is" and the only chance to see newer firmwar efor your MMI is newest DVD release (maybe 1Q-2Q of 2007). If they will include MMI firmware on new disk then your upgrade should be loaded automatically (following RNS-E logic)

The MMI is a multi component system where every component's firmware has to match in order for things to work right. If you update only one component things may go crazy. That's why it's so important to update all componets if you retrofit a device.

On the other hand, a dealer should be able to figure out why the battery is going bad on a stock A6.
