About 40% of the time, my BB crashes when the Audi BT module turns off.
Doesn't seem to matter if the handset is in BT handsfree mode or I've switched it over to Handset mode for that call.
Happens with HW rev "G" and "J".
So at the moment, almost half the time I'm on a call and I turn off the car, my phone crashes (these things take like 2 minutes to reset! It's like Windows 98!)
On top of that, I haven't been able to download my phone book. RIM says I should "with a 2006 Audi".
Is the "J" HW what's coming with 2006 Audis? Or is there newer HW?

I believe you're not getting the phone book because your BB may be set for ASK instead of TRUSTED.
Go into your 71xx option settings, go to Bluetooth and be sure that the AUDI BT hands free device is set as a TRUSTED device. If the option for TRUSTED says ASK, change it to ALWAYS TRUSTED. Once I did this, the phonebook downloaded - but with one caveat (see below).
My 7250 sent the phone book, although many of the BT options are still blacked out, due to the differences between the BB BT software and the Audi BT functions.
I found that my BB can store a lot more contacts than the Audi BT module can. I ran out of memory in the Audi module before the phone book finished storing all my contacts. (I think it made it to the L's. I'm not patient enough to count, but I think it maxed out at 250-300 contacts. My BB has over 600 contacts. I don't know about you, but for what I paid for the Audi BT module, I'd almost expect a larger amount of memory and a complete download or some way of telling the Audi which contacts to download.
I've also had the BB lock up and reboot multiple times when exiting the car. I understood this happens ONLY when the BB is accessing the network and has something to do with BB enterprise server and desktop email download. I have reported the reboot problem to RIM tech support. Perhaps you should too. The more of us who report the problem, the better.
To keep mine from rebooting, I turn off the BT AND the Wireless function *(flight mode). I haven't had a crash since.
One question I have for you... people tell me I sound like I'm in a tunnel - but only when I'm using the BB. When I use my Treo, it's loud and clear. Do people tell you your 71xx sounds clear?
Finally, you could also try upgrading to the 4.x BB software. I understood that the Bluetooth options/stack were updated at 4.1.

Do you mean "BlackBerry Desktop Software v4.1"?
For trusted all I have is Yes/No. Do you have encryption enabled or disabled?

Set to Trusted, no asking.

This would be unfortunate, as I don't even USE BES. Internet Access only. Still could happen, though.

Kinda hard to do during a call... but I can see how that would prevent a BT-associated reboot.

My current BT module for audi has lousy BT range. It sounds great when my BB handset is close to my audi HW, and it sounds great on the Parrot on my wife's car.

4.1.0.268 is the most current VZW handset OS rev.
