View Full Version : Nav CD version? SouthShoreS4 08-06-2006, 08:58 AM The DVD volume label for my RNS-E is M1N040903_NN0312. Anyone know how current that is? AudiA4B6US 08-06-2006, 01:38 PM if it's version 1A then it's the older DVD, version 2A is the current. Based on the label you posted I would say it's version 1A. Also check what it says when you press CAR and then Version, you have the 1A DVD if it says 0020 or 0040, if it says 0110 you have the 2A DVD. SouthShoreS4 08-06-2006, 02:54 PM It's a Euro flashed to US, so when I hit CAR, it only shows: SW: X--- (due to Euro to US flash) HW: H72 and map info is M1N040903_NN0312. I'm going to go pull the DVD and put it in my PC to see if I can see any file info on it. SouthShoreS4 08-06-2006, 04:17 PM what are the dates of the releases? Is 1A much older than 2A? Also, if I get the 2A version, does that automatically upgrade the firmware of the RNS-E? Or is there some other method? AudiA4B6US 08-06-2006, 04:33 PM More important, you may still be running the 0020 software. Software 0110 definitely has some improvements even if you don't have the BT phone interface. To answer the question whether or not it will auto update to the new software you will need to post more information. Go into engineering mode and post the values for NAVVER and AUDVER shown under General. To get into engineering mode, press the NAVI button, on the destination entry screen press the upper left MMI button for 10 seconds, then press the upper right MMI button until the screen changes. For the next steps you should also have access to a VAG-COM cable. SouthShoreS4 08-06-2006, 07:00 PM Navi SW version is V220057B and the Audio version is A2220132-110505. I have VAG-COM. AudiA4B6US 08-06-2006, 07:22 PM Here's what to do (at your own risk, no warranties or guaranties of any kind): - From the 1A DVD, copy the following files from the DVD in a new folder on your computer: 00.VNS, A2220109.MOT, INDEX.TXT, LOADING.KWI and LDM.BIN - Download and install UltraEdit32, the trial version is sufficient - Open INDEX.TXT with Notepad, change 0020 to 0400 and change 017B to 057C (only change the 4 characters each, not more), save and exit - Open LOADING.KWI with UltraEdit32 and change the first two occurences of V222 to V220, also change 017B to 057C, save and exit - write all files to the root of a new CD (CD-R is better than CD-RW, if you use CD-RW use 4x-12x but not the 16x+ media) - start your engine (to make sure you have 13V or more during the update) insert the CD, your RNS-E should start the update after a couple of seconds and reboot once. At this point your RNS-E is in US mode, running sw 0020 with a SOFIDX of 0400. Remove the CD and connect with VAG-COM to address #37. Change channel 97 to 1, save the change and exit VAG-COM. Then insert your original 1A DVD. The RNS-E will see a version mismatch (SOFIDX 0020 on the DVD versus 0400 in memory) and start a software upgrade (which really is a downgrade at this point). It should reboot twice. After the second reboot it will show under car sw 0020 and NAVVER V222017B / AUDVER A2220109 in engineering mode. At this point you have a virtually real US RNS-E, running software 0020. Borrow and insert a 2A DVD to update to sw 0110 (will reboot twice again, no need to keep the 2A DVD, your 1A DVD will work fine with the 0110 software). If you already have a 1A DVD I would recommend to wait for the 3A DVD that should get released in a couple of weeks instead of buying the 1 year old 2A DVD now. SouthShoreS4 08-06-2006, 07:31 PM AudiA4B6US 08-06-2006, 07:48 PM Since it's already running the US software, everything will work as before. SouthShoreS4 08-07-2006, 03:38 AM It identifies it as an 0400 software update CD/DVD, but then comes back with a message saying "please insert the navigation DVD" (or something close to that) If I put the navi DVD in at that point, it just returns to normal operations. I used 48X media, but it's CD-R, not CD-RW... AudiA4B6US 08-07-2006, 06:04 AM Could be that they used a SOFIDX higher than 0400 when they first installed the US software. Remove the CD, change #37 channel 97 to 1, save and exit VAG-COM, then insert the CD and see what happens. SouthShoreS4 08-12-2006, 05:24 AM Thanks. Just need to borrow a 2A DVD. Think a dealership would let me borrow one? |
