Been reading up on this, and I have a quick question. Can an RNS-E Retrofit be done on an B7 with the standard red console (read: no color trip computer). I'd imagine so, but are they any drawbacks? Has anyone done this?

(I did search the archives, and did not find this specifically answered, but I may not have phrased the search right, so if this has been answered already pls point me in the right direction)

you should consider retrofitting that as well. While the RNS-E should work, you won't be able to use the DIS as 2nd display. The RNS-E works with the red DIS but without the wiper stalk you are somehow limited. Retrofitting the trip computer should be as easy as installing a new wiper stalk (which requires removing the airbag) and making some VAG-COM changes.

I was suprised to see that but some North American 2006 A4 B7 just get the red center display with miles to empty or so. No switches at the wiper stalk to switch between FIS1, FIS2 and OFF.

So, if it is true what I'm guessing here then they either come with the color DIS and trip computer or with the red display without trip computer.

Yeah, my 2006 has only the red display with miles to empty. No wiper stalk controls, etc. Not as nice, but it kept the cost down below $34K (which is the most I have spent on a car so far, ever)
Well worth the money though ... I love my A4.

then just use the RNS to turn the compass off or on as desired?
