Hi there,

I have a 2001 B5 S4. How can I disconnect / remove the factory trunk mounted navigation unit (BNS)? Do I need to use single DIN radio removal tools & use the 2 slots on the unit? Or do I need to remove the trunk liner & unbolt the unit from the mounting cage?

More Context:
I'm in the process of installing an RNS-E in my 2001 B5 S4 (Bose, CD Changer, BNS factory trunk navigation system). I've removed the Symphony I, plugged in the RNS-E to the wiring adapter to the car wiring, but have not tapped the CAN wiring from behind the instrument cluster. I need to disconnect my BNS to check if I need to tap those CAN wires.

I'm hoping that disconnecting the BNS will fix these problems:
1) RNS-E doesn't power on / off with ignition (probably)
2) RNS-E buttons do not light up (probably)
3) RNS-E navigation cannot track my location (hopefully)
4) RNS-E navigation arrival time is grossly wrong (probably not - known issue)

TIA,
YASA

conversion from BNS to RNS... sort of a loop back thing.
