It turns up the audio volume as you go faster to account for cabin noise.

Is it an encoded signal? On/Off Signal? Linear signal? Does it tell the radio exactly how fast you are going?

I've read through TeddyBGame's and others' posts about upgrading to RSN-E. Everyone talks about splicing into the GALA wire. I'd rather splice nothing if I can get away with it. I just don't know what else this signal is used for.

Thanks in advance for any other info you might share.

The RNS-E uses the vehicle speed to move the indicator on the navigation map. The unit does not synchronize with the GPS satellites fast enough to move the indicator properly.

The RNS-E also uses the speed signal for GALA functions... to adjust your audio volume with speed.

I strongly suggest that you make this connection for proper navigation operation. You don't want to be missing a turn because your position is lagging behind. The connection is easy to make if you're slightly handy with tools.
