i think it would lose some feel. unless you made it so the entire image printed on the 11x14 and then cut the margins off the top and the bottom. if that's the case, i'd probably go a bit bigger.

which will be a decent size for the print (unless you wanted it larger). The print size is pretty dependent on how your friend has his/her walls set up (and how much you want to spend on a frame/mat). :)

Then you can get a stock 16x24 frame and then you just need to custom cut the matte down to the proper opening of 9.75x19.75. For that print, I'd go with simple black frame and a 1/4" white matte board to give it depth. Websites like Americanframe.com can custom cut matts for you real cheap compared to the b&m framing stores.

I know its not an impressive capture for a lot of reasons. I'm guessing thats what you were thinking, its ok, my skin is pretty thick here. : )
Anyway, she liked the look in B&W and its more of a sentimental image than a worthy of framing one. She mentioned she would buy it and frame it and since her bday is here, I figured what the hell.

a 10x20 for pick up tomorrow. I think you were right on the size as it seems to give up the least.
finding a frame and matte board that will work well will be tomorrows challenge. I'm thinking "michaels crafts" should have something that works, and those folks are usually helpful, so If I tell them I have a 10*20 they may have some options for me. thanks

the 11x14 seemed to fall just a bit short and the 10x20 seems to work, and is as big as I really wanted to go.... it actually may be too big, but we'll see.
Thanks

But they are also going to tell you that they need two weeks to custom cut a matte. Couple years ago I got frustrated at the wait for custome matting and I bought my own matte cutter (Michael's sells them). Then you just buy the mattes you need and cut them yourself, which is very easy once you get the hang of it (with blade angled left, you keep what is left of the blade, discard to the right). If you plan on doing as few as 3 more of these, that matte cutter will pay for itself.
18x12 (or any 3:2 ratio print):

Go with the 20x10 as suggested:

You can cut the mat yourself (they're cheap) and get sets of DIY frames at Michael's. You could even get the whole thing custom-ordered through <a href="http://www.framedestination.com/framekit.aspx?type=fkmeta00000000000000">framedestination.com</a>

great perspective you've shared, and you are correct as was Trac. 10x20 does the print the most justice... well as much as possible at least... like I said, its not a portfolio shot, but be that as it may... To the layperson, its a pretty nice looking shot, but it doesnt hold up to real scrutiny.
I used a local printer, who does pro work, not a warehouse type and I uploaded the pic today and picked it up to today.... They did a great job with the processing, looks great.
I decided on a whim to check out a local frame shop, (michaels wanted 10+ days to do the job) These folks layed out a bunch of options and are cutom framing it for me. $55 and its ready by Thursday.... I'm even going to "sign" the mat for added "gheyness" lol.
I think its gonna look nice and I gope she likes it.
11 for the print, 55 for the frame. Hope its a nice gift.
Thanks to all for the time and feedback, much appreciated.
