Just got myself a generic Off-Camera Shoe Cord for the 20D off of ebay. Showed up Tuesday. Works great, only cost me $37 shipped. Quality seems pretty robust - enough to handle normal usage. Plus, it's half the price of the real thing. Only downside I can see so far is the cord on the flash end is attached to the left side of the block, rather than the front like the Canon.

I guess it's enough if you're going to hand-hold the flash unit, but it takes a bit too much force to keep the cord fully stretched out. Uncomfortable, I'd say.

granted you lose ETTL, but manual mode is hardly difficult to learn.
