I've posted this on a number of forums before, but the response has been anemic at best.. But I'll try one more time..
I just spoke with the group at the CT River Exp and they are willing to accomodate a private group for their Eagle cruise. They had just returned to port and a quick summary of their sightings included two pairs of eagles with nest sitting, a number of eagles feedings, Canvas Backed Ducks, Rough Legged Hawks (nice!!), Cormoran's and earlier in the season Harbor Seals.
Many of the regular time slots are full, and the typical weekend day events are limited to two hours. However, they would be willing to do an afternoon event, limited to a private group, leaving the dock at 3PM (nice light!!) and returning around 5 PM, unless there is decent activity for which they would stay out longer since there isn't a tour waiting to leave.
The boat is a 55 foot catamaran (14 foot beam) with room inside for 30 people sitting, with a flat, open fore and aft deck. Plenty of room for tripods and monopods. The boat leaves from the dock near the CT River Museum in Esset.
The only 3PM weekend slot NOT available is March 9th, and the last one worth attending for ample activity would be March 16th.. I would shoot for an afternoon two to three weeks out if possible.
In the past, the response to the CT River Exp. Eagle cruise has been that there are too many children... But this becomes a non-issue for a private charter. Cost would be about $80 - $90 for the two plus hours on the boat assuming a group of at least 10 - 12 people, and with more, the cost per head drops. The max would be about 25 - 30 photographers.
I am looking to gauge interest for a 3PM weekend trip, for one of the next three weekends and since it's short notice, please...serious interest is a pre-requisite... Show of hands for anyone who might be interested in attending????
