Didn't spend too much time on composition..mostly exploration of the settings, menus and AF system.

The Dynamic 51pt AF with 3D tracking is freakish...Lock on to a moving target with any AF point, keep camera still and watch the focus point travel across the viewfinder locked onto the subject. Or, lock on a recompose and the AF point moves around stuck to the chosen focus point.

Dynamic range is fantastic. Both shadow detail and highlight detail. Looks like this is going to be fun. Still under 75 images on the body, so I have some work to do with it.

All images shot RAW. converted to jpg with slight color correction and mild sharpening in LR.

Now how much post processing was done to achieve that.... actually resized images typically looks sharp to begin with.

Not to say I'm knocking on the D300, had both the D300 and D3 in my hands and was pretty impressed with the two!

I'd no longer have any excuses for why my shots were always out of focus

Amount = 31
Radius = .7
Detail = 34
Masking = 81 !!

Using the preview feature in LR, the sharpening is limited the eye, bill (where appropriate) and mouth.

The Gulls in flight were shot with the Nikkor 24-120VR, at f/5.6

All the rest were shot with a Sigma 70-200/2.8 at f/2.8 or 3.5.

All were shot in RAW...Crop, then apply tone curve preset, sharpen as noted and export.

These were the most effortless images..to shoot and process.

A lot of people are going to be able to turn out some great image captures...few will now how they did it, or be able to recreate it on demand.

This is great for some folks..but I wouldn't give up the having shot a match needle film SLR for the world.

With technology like this new photographers will never learn the basics... It's Spell Check for the camera world..

All the color extraction is done with LR Develop Presets.

I'll set them up in the D300 just incase I find myself someplace where I'd like to blast off a bunch of jpegs...

the one without the border..

The detail in the highlights beside the details in the shadows on the neck.. And that was almost no PP'ng. That was a crop, WB adjustment, one blip each of the Brightness and Vibrance adjustments and a Vignette application. Sharpen and export.
