I am new to photography and still learning and wanted to get some critique from the experts here. My camera is a Canon Rebel XTi, so nothing too elaborate. I'd like to say I setup this photos all manually, but most of these were on the full auto setting as this new puppy moves fast and is hard to capture. I'm trying to get better about finding good subjects, angles, heights. None of these have been enhanced, straight off the camera.
Thoughts?

i love that last one!! shame the dog wasn't looking into the camera. either way, still a winner.

i took some classes in high-school, but that was it. everything else was thru magazines/books, talking to people, and now these forums. oh yeah, practice too...
i think the rule of thirds is good to get started with...

and i'd start to learn about RAW files, and how to process them. i've learned with my camera that taking raw files is really only 1/2 the equation - post processing them is another. now, i am learning to shoot with an idea of what it would take to post process them. ie - levels & curves.

Whatever the histogram shows, subjectively I like the exposures. You've got a bit of a tough subject with a white body and black eyes -- makes it hard to capture expression.

and technical aspects as to how the camera works and what I am finding out that the camera is not much of what makes a good shot but rather the composition of the photo.

to make a well exposed photo, artistic. This is why your third is the strongest by far! The dogs eyes are about 1/3 up from the bottom.

Your puppy has light fur and deep dark eyes, you'll have to play with exposures to get both right. Our dog has dark fur and lighter eyes, another kettle of fish. A lot of reflected ambient light (like near water or on a beach) does wonders for him.
