Canon lens gods I ask you:

In terms of a walk around lens used mainly for landscapes, would the Canon 50mm 1.8 have any advantage over the 24-105 4 L? (I have a 30D.)

Ideally, I'd like a wide angle, but I unfortunately can't afford one at the moment, but hopefully soon!

Also, does anyone have any experieince with ND grad filters with either of these lenses? Any specific ones you'd recommend?

I wish I could post some super crazy B&H discount code as payment for your troubles, but I hope "thank you" will suffice.

Thanks!

so other than the price, 50 f/1.8 doesn't have any advantages over the 24-105.

If you have experience with blending layers in Photoshop, you can most of the time do without graduated ND filters, assuming you shoot RAW

I have the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 and still sometimes wish I had wider for landscapes. I haven't used my 50mm since I've gotten the 24-70.

i, personally, rarely walk around with my 50mm lens on. i just don't like it. it's never as wide as i want nor is it as telephoto as i'd like. i use it for indoor concerts and that's about it.
my day to day walk around lens is canon's 17-40 f4L.

At least not ideal, in the least.
