I took a R&R vacation in Mauritius to get in the summer mood after a long and dark winter. My first priority was watersports and hiking but I did manage to take the obligatory ocean-beach-boat-palmtree pics between the activities. It's a fantastic place if you're into diving, fishing, boating and hiking. Oh, and also a perfect place for honeymoon.

Photos of Mauritius

Yep, it's a paradise on earth - especially if you're into watersports. There were lots of people surfing further away from the beach but unfortunately the 24-105mm was the longest lens I had, so I didn't get any good pics.
Here's a couple of very very bad crops...

I used a travel agency to book the flights and accomodation but I arranged all the tours, trips and local transportation myself. It would probably have been a bit cheaper to also book the flights and hotels myself but I got a pretty good deal. Everything is very easy to arrange in Mauritius, so independent travelling is simple and safe.

I've thought about going there for a vacation .. well to the sychelles actually, but the trip is pretty long

Yeah, the trip is quite long. I flew from Helsinki to Frankfurt (2 hours) and from Frankfurt to Mauritius (about 11 hours). Germans are very punctual and careful, so it's wise to fly via Frankfurt if you don't want to risk losing your luggage :) I flew Lufthansa (Helsinki-Frankfurt-Helsinki) and Condor (Frankfurt-Mauritius-Frankfurt). Condor is a relatively big german airline working in co-operation with Lufthansa.
Seychelles is very beautiful and especially suitable for diving but if you want to do something else, then there's not much to do. I had a hard time deciding between the two but decided to to Mauritius because I wanted to go hiking and see also some sights etc. Seychelles is all about diving and beaches. But the beaches are probably the best in the world.

I also very much like the sunset photo. Zenfolio's resizing and compression algorithms seem to be quite aggressive and this is visible in the sky of the sunset pic. The original photo is completely smooth, this one shows pretty rough tonal graduations. Other photos seem to be ok though. Some sharpness has been lost in most photos but that's no surprise considering the heavy resizing and compression.
