I didn't notice this until a few weeks ago when I wanted to post a WTB. Can only respond to existing threads on FM, and found a few threads saying how the # of posts on POTN has increased since FM is now charging for it.

Still free, just more attention now that former FMers have flocked over. List it for $1050 and it'll be gone in 5 days.

I thought that might be high...but I'll give it a shot and see tonight.

Do you really like the new one so much better?

Just a guess, though. I'd take anything over $950 or so.

I'll be there at 1 to drop off my car, and then a few of us are heading out to lunch...you're welcome to tag along or just hang out and play with the lens if you want.

do you see difference in the center? (that's all I'm really concerned about)

I've only taken it out of the box so far. Haven't had time to play with it yet. I just know I'm not thrilled with the mk I, and regardless of my decision between the mkII and 17-40, the mk I is on the auction block. I'll try to find time this weekend to post a few samples, but I doubt I'll have time to do a good A-B comparison.

Listed at $1050obo, then dropped to $1000obo, and finally reduced today to $975 incl ship.

That's $400+ hit!

I'd have to see dramatic improvement in the new lens to even consider such move - not to mention that the new one is what - $1600 or so?

Raj, send the new one back and be happy :)
