I'm looking for a good all around lens for my Canon EOS XTi, I got the crappy 18-55 and a ok Tamron 100-300, but what is a good lens for dalily use

I know more about older Canons (got a '84 F1) and a AE1 program. and love them, but I know nothing about EFS lenses

TIA

We can't give a good recommendation unless we know what your interest is.

it's pretty much a daylight-only lens, and even then you might have to raise ISO seeing as how you need a minimum shutter speed of 1/250 sec on the long end.

if you do decide to get it, buy it from amazon for the same price as that sketchy gray-market ebay dealer<ul><li><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Canon-70-200mm-Telephoto-Zoom-Cameras/dp/B000053HH5/sr=8-1/qid=1171377881/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-6817653-1531308?ie=UTF8&amp;s=electronics">http://www.amazon.com/Canon-70-200mm-Telephoto-Zoom-Cameras/dp/B000053HH5/sr=

They've been around for years. Most NY/Long Islanders know of them.

Very sharp and good colors. Only issue is you'll want more reach at the track. You can stack a 1.4x converter on it to get that extra reach, but you lose a stop of light with that. at f5.6, I think you're on the extreme end of what the XTi's autofocusing system will allow you to work with.

The other option is the f2.8 (non-IS) version, but it's a bit heavier. You might like the f2.8 for candids though. Not sure if that's in your budget though.

Last alternative is a prime (200mm f2.8L canon lens). I just happen to have one that's minty fresh if you're interested.
