Someone on another forum posted the link below. I was looking at the photos and thinking how much better some of the work posted on this forum is.
The photos in the link below are generally very soft. The last one in particular it's just pixelated. I can't believe someone got paid for this (although in the last case it was probably the web designer that should be shot).
Oh, if someone here took those pics...nice job...you're getting better! :-P

http://ristoranteprimadonna.com/</a

Takes a bit of effort, etc. guess at the end of the day it's just a matter of priorities. Something I wouldn't mind doing but at the same time, do I really to have a 'second job' or just keep photography as something I can dabble with from time to time (and it's the latter).
I look at work published here...like truth's pictures 2 days after he buys a few light bulbs...and it blows away some work being passed off as "professional". We don't have to live off the fruits of our work, but I'd imagine a good number of us could pay for our toys with some of the work we put out. The hard part is finding the work, not delivering the goods.
It's just a topic that has danced around in my head for a while. I know I can do this...I'm just not sure what kind of work I would like to target.

I'm lucky enough to be in school so I don't have a career just yet. It really is all about how you market yourself.
This wedding photographer that I shadowed a couple of times told me about a guy that graduated with a business degree and decided he wanted to be a full time photographer. Right from the beginning he marketed himself as a high-end wedding photographer and was asking $10,000 a wedding. Sure enough, he did a great job and now he only does like 10-15 weddings a year. Sure he has the talent but he just knew how to market himself.

i don't think i'm the best photographer out there by any means, i'm decent at best. i'm still learning a lot every day, but for some reason, I've been getting a fair share of gigs from referrals. they're all from people who want engagement shoots, event coverage, or corporate headshots. do i think i should be getting paid that much? probably not...but if they want to pay and they're happy with the results, i'm more than happy to shoot. :)
i think the majority of the subjects that people shoot here - cars, architecture, abstract objects, etc - are very hard to sell. people generally like to buy more personal images from what i've seen. they like memories. that's probably the only reason why i get away with selling my photographic services. for me, shooting people has made photography a self-sustaining hobby from a financial standpoint.
