saturday night at my local watering hole a band was playing and a woman was taking pictures using her Canon XTi and the kit lens. the lighting was terrible so she kept using the onboard flash. i've shot in the same bar with my XT using my 50mm lens wide open and even then you need to crank up the ISO. the onboard flash kills the lights that shine on the stage (from my experience) and wide open on that lens is 3.5-5.6 so it's not near as fast as 1.8 with the nifty fifty.

i didnt, but i thought about asking her how she was doing and what settings she was using. from looking at her trying to operate the camera it seemed as though she was fumbling around and didn't know what she was doing.

just wondering if you've ever encountered someone that looked as though they could use a hand and offer them some pointers? first thought i'd probably think that person's an ass at, but after seeing a potential improvement i'd be very happy they did that.

Chad gets very angry when I tell him where the shutter release is.

They are shooting with cool equipment that I don't have... Then I make small talk

take shots that have more "warmth" in low light. Time to buy a flash.

Depending on the venue, I can get a lot of warmth just by turning the flash down, and using the stage lights.

I also use a somewhat slow shutter, even handheld.. I've got a pretty steady hand.

Of the 4 shots above, only teh one from behind the drums is on a tripod.
