Nothing annoys me more than a high-key shot with a background that's not pure white. Aargh!

You nailed it -- nice job! :)

oops... Actually, "I" need to calibrate my laptop - turns out it's pretty close to white.

Not that it will help - the stupid Thinkpad changes color to pink with the slight angle change

I like the blue reflection (just not the way it is cut off)

I used a blur / mask deal to blend the stainless steel stool the bottle is sitting on into the white background. I still need to dial in the whites. That was my first attempt with the set up. I think I need to roll out some new paper as the background has a few wrinkles in it that are causing some slight shading. It's proving to be rather stubborn to blow out.

It's new and I wanted to see what I could produce quickly. The reflection comes off a stainless steel stool I had the bottle on. The background is seemless white paper. I used a blur / maks to meld them but the high keyed blowout was a struggle with the white grip on the bottle. I created another masking layer for this one and painted the background white. I think it fixes the background.

You'd make so much more sense dude.

still, it's an doable in photoshop for those without reflective stools.
you did a good job of erasing any trace of the stool though. so you just used a white backdrop and placed the bottle on the stool, the photoshopped all but the reflection out?

I used a blur filter and mask to soften everything except the bottle. The stool had scratches and swirls so the reflection was meh. By blurring it all the ugly vanishes as does the border between the stool and the background. Then I went in and used the lasso tool to separate the bottle and the reflection from everything else via a layering cut. Then I painted the background layer white which made it all an even color. Flatten the layers into one image and it's done.

the background of AW is pure white, so when I couldn't see the edge of the picture, I knew it was done right.

P.S. My monitors *are* calibrated -- I just got a calibration tool 2 weeks ago! :-P

But even beforehand it was one of the best High-key's I've seen online in a long time. I'm used to the background showing up clearly against a white web page FTL.

I'm used to people posting high-key which looks like this:

<IMG SRC="http://www.showyourmedia.com/membersonly/getimg.php?image=lanemeyer/People/013007_ab_test-96AB_test.jpg">

I know this was your first attempt and you know better, but the point is your febreeze picture was pretty close to white in the background compared to 95% of the high-key I see posted on teh int3rwebz.

right and left edges and the top had spots with RGB values about 240.

So on a calibrated monitor you should clearly see the difference from 255 (in my case it was exaggerated by laptop screen tilt)

What luminance do you have the displays set to?
