View Full Version : any reason to not get a 5d? AKA not worth the money/spend it on a different body?

already have some pretty good glass, so I am not worried about that.

I really want a full size chip (for a couple of wide/fish eye lenses)

is there any other canon body that I should spend the dough on instead?
also, where is the cheapest place to get a 5D from? I am a student as well

Thanks!

The viewfinder is nice and big and so is the lcd. If I had the coin I'd pick it up but the 20D is good for me (for now haha). I like shooting wide angle so the 5D would be sweet. Also since it's a smaller DSLR (not as big as the 1D) it would be better for carrying around).

So if you can and already have the glass then sure get it. I do plan on upgrading in the future but also keep my 20D.

Tried my friend's 5D and it's a great to be looking through a full-size viewfinder and making full use of that glass.

I've had one since last October.
The files are gorgeous !!!

My mkII's sit and collect dust, unless I'm shooting action.

FF senson and 12.8mpx is perfect !!!!

BUY IT !!!!

8.5 fps... why use anything else.

I'd imagine it would be fine though.

The AF system is that of the 20D, but seems better. (had a 20D for a time)

If you shoot jpeg and have a quick card, I'd imagine it'd run fine.
Buffer seems to write quickly and has a good capacity.

I shoot RAW only and I've never filled up the 5D buffer, but as I said, don't use this body for action/high speed stuff.

he's single-handedly started a 35 1.4L craze at a certain photography forum over a year ago, that is still going on LOL

Two 30Ds and a 5D body.

I really want to buy his 1D MrkII for the better AF for the sports stuff.... as he doesn't need fast AF and 8fps for wedding stuff.

With a lens this silkey smooth (35 1.4L), why would you NOT want it... ;- )

The mkII's Low Light AF response is much better than the 5D/20-30D's.

Wedding photogs have Low Light issue's all the time.

Hey, his loss, your gain.... buy it !!! (for the sports stuff)
Otherwise, buy the 5D !!!!!!!!!

And yeah, slap 1 in front of it and don't forget about the 135L as MichaelTM mentioned.

It has a bit weird field of view on 1.25x crop of the 1D. Still, I sold mine a few months back and already miss it, so I'll probably buy one again.

It rarely got used, but every time I used it, it did wonders...

On a full frame camera like 5D, it should be a dream lens

it'll probably get more use with the FF sensor on the 5D though.
