The package deal comes with 18mm-55mm or 28mm-80mm. I would like to have a Tamron 28mm-300mm. I need to have at least 8-10X zoom, but I don't want to carry two lenses all the time. Should I buy a body only and buy the Tamron separately or it is nice to have a 28mm-80mm around the house?

Maybe I got that wrong...but what I meant was the kit lens that's included with the D70 kit. It's a pretty good lens.

Anyway, it's nice to have a wide angle around from time to time. 28mm isn't wide enough on a 1.6x body to qualify as "wide".

Great range, very versatile. Used it mostly as a travel lens, since I didn't want to carry around multiple lenses and have to swap.

It was a little slow to focus, and a little on the heavy side. But it served me very well, and I think the image quality was better than most people give it credit for.
