J&R Music world is offering to him for $1657. I also told him to check out Dell. Any other places we should consider?
He wanted a quality zoom lens for his 10D. Actually, he wanted to upgrade to the 30D, but I convinced him his money is better spent on higher quality lenses than a new body (he currently uses the 28-135 IS for most shots, and the 70-300 IS for long range, both lenses are in the $400 range new). I've read countless reviews of the 70-200 series of lenses and by most accounts they are the sharpest zoom lenses in Canon's lineup. And he's a big fan of IS, so he's willing to go for the 2.8 IS version.

Otherwise, their prices suck ($1959). Onecall, Adorama, and B&H all list it for $1700 (US warranty). Check the Buy/Sell forum at FM, too.
Did you mean the older 75-300 IS? The new 70-300 IS is more like $565.
If for any reason he changes his mind (it is a heavy lens), he can send it back within 14 days no questions asked.
I actually sold mine because I had a wrist injury that forbid me from handling that lens. I replaced it with a 70-200 f4 (much lighter and equally sharp and colorful). Now that my wrist is better, I've debated going back to the 70-200 IS, but I really love the f4 version! I'd like it more with IS...

In any event, it wasn't a very good lens. I never felt it was very sharp, and reviews I've read have confirmed that. He'd like to trade it in. One camera shop told him it was worth $300, but I felt that was optimistic. I think that this was Canon's first IS lens, if I'm not mistaken.

Have ordered a bunch of stuff from them, all with great success. Fast, packed well, no BS, etc..

10D. He won't event touch the potential of that lens with his current body. Talk him into getting the 30D and 70-200 and you would do him proud son ;-)

Why do you say that he won't achieve the potential with this lens with the 10D? I'm aware of the advances that Canon has made with the 20D and 30D, and I guess I'm not knowledgable enough to know exactly what the 30D is providing that allows him to do more with this particular lens?

cameras is much better than the 10D. At ISO 100 the 10D produces nice photos but in low light situations the grain from the camera will negate the sharp photo the lens actually captured.
