Finally addressed: ISO in the viewfinder and spot meter, some long standing requests since the 10D. Resolution remains at 8MP (I can already see the disappointment on dpreview.com about it not being 10MP).

There's also a new 85mm 1.2L MrkII. Who wants to sell me their MrkI lens? :)

I haven't been keeping tabs on the rumor mill. The 30D fixed some of my gripes with the 20D (which ultimately led to me giving it up). And with the intro of the 17-55 f2.8...canon is really offering a lot more to the prosumer market.

I checked dpreview's forum this morning and I already got turned off by the amount of bickering. Wwait now I'm bickering about the bickering on dpreview :)

dpreview's forum has really sank over the last little while.

Lot of crying and cursing, but nothing worthwhile.

So what's the rumor mill say about one more announcement?

No frills camera. No RAW support being one of them.

Though my friend who seems to be in the know (he predicted the 30D and 85L) mentions of a possibility of a 1D something.

Not like I can afford it anyways but it's always interesting to see what Nikon and Canon always comes out with, competition is good!

as if it was scanned right out of the pamphlet.

Pretty underwhelming

I read up on it thinking I was going to be sad that I just bought the lens in October but I'm not. The changes are so little and I got it for like $500 cheaper than what they will be charging for the mkII! I don't mind the focusing on it, it's fast enough for the type of pictures that I use it for, I actually like manual focus more anyways :)

make the image noisier. I only paid $950 for my 20D brand new and am in no way going to sell it to upgrade to the 30D. As a hobbyist the 20D does everything I could need. The 5D however is a completely different story ;-)

I think you'll see a firmware hack for the 20D in the not so distant future to unlock these features.

I'm tired of constant lens changes and would love a second body.

My contact has been able to disassemble the 20D firmware. Haven't heard from him lately on this on what he found yet, but I was thinking if we could get spot metering it would be nice.

HOWEVER, the spot metering that is used in the 30D, there appears to be some differences in the hardware as mentioned in Canon's white paper, so spot metering in the 20D might not be possible because of the limitation at the hardware level. What I would like to see is a ISO indicator in the viewfinder, like getting rid of the shots left counter and using 1, 2, 4, 8, etc. to indicate the ISO.

So the hacks for the 20D will be very limited in my opinion. I'm waiting to play Tetris on the 20D (in fact one of the old powershot cameras they wrote a tetris program for it believe it or not).

...LET US KNOW!

-ISO selectable in third stop steps
-PictureStyles instead of simple image parameters
-9,999 images per folder (instead of 100 as per the EOS 20D)
-AE/AF lock remains set if shutter is kept half-pressed between shots

Spot metering would be gravy. But I think the above would be simple to implement.

As there was one that reported he had his 20D back from Canon (CPS member also) and found his 20D in spot metering mode (and the EXIF in his images mentioned it too). But after reading the 30D, maybe it's not possible after all.

But yeah, the ISO selectable in third stops and having the files organized better on the CF are two things I wouldn't mind having.

It all depends if there is enough space within the code to inject new stuff..... I'm still amazed that they were able to do things like adding a new menu item and MLU option on the DRebel.

I'll keep you guys posted if there are any developments.... but I'm not holding my breath though!
