I'm really surprised at how sharp the pics are compared to the 17-40 f4L, especially considering the price. Minimum focal distance is longer than I had expected but I was mainly looking for shallow DOF on a budget. The 85mm f1.2L is just slightly out of my budget right now.

I find that the 17-40L I have is sharper than the 50 F1.8 Mrk2 I had.

I need to get a lens test sheet printed out to see what's up with it. I've read great things about it but so far I've been underwhelmed. The 70-200 I have is outstanding.
Not saying it's bad, but if the 17-40L is worse than that...something is wrong with it.

A few that I took today I noticed details on the stuff I was shooting that I hadn't seen before when just looking at the item.
Focus point is off a bit on this, I should have been aimed a bit lower. I hadn't noticed the casting marks until I pulled the pic up on the computer.
