might switch to Canon Digital Photo Professional. I like ACR because I can , view as slide show, rate my photo's, adjust raw settings then batch process with PS and any apply any customized actions.

But today I tried DPP and was very pleased with the Raw->JPG conversion. The exposures, WB and colors were spot on. I can save as JPG, sharpen and resize. There is a batch process also, I haven't used it yet.

When I open the DPP JPG in Photoshop, apply levels, the image doesn't change. But with an ACR conversion it corrects it. DPP is easier to use although it lacks lens correction, but I think the newer version added this feature. I also prefer the way skin tones come out. Maybe I'm using ACR wrong or tweaking it too much, but I'm sold with the Canon software.

Just a heads up for you Adobe guys to try out DPP and decide for yourself.

These were shot in my home "studio" which is in the works right now. More to come on this soon...

DPP if I need something quick, ACR if I need something with more contrl. But that's just my preference, some prefer the other way around, while others don't even use either one but something else.

and will do weird things like drop exposure way down and bring brightness +100. All things considered it's a good program, though- tons of control.

Not sure why but I find it easier to deal with and it will open direct to Pshop in 16-bit if I need to.

That said, I think I'll switch to Lightroom when it's out for the PC.

And let's not be rude and assume that this forum is all Canon (since Nikon is still a Giant), DPP is a Canon tool that is pretty well though out!

i do use it often, and dend to like it more then PS for RAWs

people are shooting with, this is a post processing thread. With more software options hitting the market I was just curious what people here thought about the one's they've used.

Does DPP let you convert to a TIFF for editing rather than a JPG? I'm still enjoying the fact that I can get back data in RAW that the in-camera jpg has "lost".

kind of hot. All of the photos they do are of cheerleaders and girls, keeps you attention, good marketing ;-)

Canon DPP

I also got to play with it a bit while I was there. I have a 12" Powerbook but I use a PC for photo editing so I haven't bothered downloading the beta. They said the PC beta will be out in the summer so I'll download it then.

Oh, I also bought an Epson 2400 for an excellent price. The printer is excellent.

does it let you open direct into PShop as a 16-bit file using ProPhoto RGB as a color space? If it doesn't, that's a problem. I believe it does. Nikon Capture does.

you're right. It's only available for Macs...oh well.

You can also use a CMYK simulation profile. It seems to have all of the major features, it's just missing a few bells and whistles that ACR has which I can deal with. But DPP is so much faster it's remarkable.

I got it at the beginning of December and I love it! It's so nice and so easy to use. Before the I was using DPP and I thought it was ok but Aperture blows it out of the water.

Makes me wish I owned a Mac for photo processing.

But ya it's awesome. It suits my needs for now and will suit my needs if I ever were to become one of the top photographers (never going to happen, just giving an example). I watched the DVD tutorial and I was shocked with all the little features it has, I'm sure there are more hidden too.
